The Obligation of Fornication

This is a controversial one for me. Long story short, I had to write this villanelle for university and I copped a lot of flak for it, considering the subject matter (and the fact that I went to a Catholic university). None the less, hope you enjoy.


T'is the birthing of the human nation
To each and all a basic human right
- The obligation of fornication.


Through the peril of communication
Two souls and two bodies entwine alight
T'is the birthing of the human nation.


Though the lone soul's right to masturbation
Ebbs the flow of life, thus t'is clear in sight
- The obligation of fornication.


Though the act be rid of sanitation
With bodily secretions every night
T'is the birthing of the human nation.


Perchance we're deprived humanization
Toys and gizmos can ail the lover's plight
- The obligation of fornication.


Thus with hope and widespread realization
Not just in lust, nay friend, let love take flight
T'is the birthing of the human nation
